Kyle’s Story

Kyle Rowley (right) and his family

Kyle Rowley was killed by a distracted and texting driver in May, 2011 not far from his home in Fairfax County. He was 19 years old.

Kyle returned home from his freshman year of college, got a job cooking at the Red Robin, and was dead a week and a half later.

He was a fun loving guy with many friends. He loved snowboarding and cooking for his friends. We were so happy to have him home. The night he died, there were 100 grieving teenagers at my house.

I didn’t know what to say or do. I was in shock. It took a long time for that to wear off and many years for me to believe he was really gone.

Vehicle deaths have gone up in Virginia, reflecting a national trend. We know it is due to distracted driving. Our laws need to be strengthened. Please do this for Kyle’s sake and so that other families may not have to suffer our fate.
