See and Be Seen

Share the Road

Most road users are motor vehicle drivers and passengers. A good driver understands that he or she must be aware of all road users – not just other vehicles.

DRIVE SMART Virginia has launched a “See and Be Seen” campaign to remind all road users that they have a responsibility to look out for others. Campaign materials remind drivers to keep their eyes on the road and drive distraction-free. Pedestrians and bicyclists are reminded to wear bright or reflective clothing and to use flashlights or bike lights as appropriate.

Virginia law requires that, when passing, motorists stay at least 3 feet away from pedestrians and bicyclists.

October is Bicyclist and Pedestrian Awareness Month in Virginia. You can participate and help spread the traffic safety message! Find helpful “See and Be Seen” items in our Online Toolkit.
